The goals of this website are to:
- Improve the status of women and girls via issue advocacy, coalition building, information sharing.
- Increase the number of women in elective and appointed office in Oklahoma through recruitment, leadership training, campaign schools, and candidate recognition.
- dentify gender bias in Oklahoma statutes and programs through creation of a state-level women's lobby and other projects that advance the cause of women and girls.
- Promote collaboration and networking between women's organizations.
- Celebrate past Oklahoma women, recognize today's women leaders and spotlight Oklahoma's future women leaders via biographies, resumes and contact information.
- Announce upcoming events of interest to Oklahoma women and recount recent events focused on the status of women in Oklahoma.
The website is maintained by Jean Warner, Ph.D. of Oklahoma City. Warner promotes projects that empower women and girls in Oklahoma. She holds a Doctorate in Political Science from the University of Oklahoma. A co-founder of Oklahoma’s National Education for Women’s Leadership program, she is a past League of Women Voters of Oklahoma board member and past president of local chapters of BPW (Stillwater), Women's Political Caucus (Stillwater) and League of Women Voters (Stillwater & Oklahoma County). She is Legislative Chair of the recently formed Oklahoma Women's Legislative Coalition.
The inspiration for the website and blog came out of a December 2004 meeting of Oklahoma women leaders (see below) to discuss establishment of a women's networking organization. That initiative is still in the development stages. All agreed we wanted more information available on the Internet about Oklahoma women and about resources available to women in our state.
